The short answer

A stationery shop sells nil-rated notebooks and pencils beside pens and other stationery at 18% GST, often on the same bill. In Bilzy, save each item’s rate once — including 0% items — and every bill works out the tax line by line. Scan barcodes on branded goods, make quotations for schools and offices and turn them into bills, and keep credit accounts for institutions. Bilzy runs on Android and Windows from ₹999 a year, with a free plan.

Since 22 September 2025, exercise books, notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and crayons carry no GST, while pens and most other stationery stay at 18%.

How to bill a stationery shop on Bilzy

  1. 1

    Import your items

Bring your list in from Excel with the name, barcode, price and GST, choosing which column is which.

  2. 2

    Set 0% where it applies

Mark notebooks, pencils, erasers and printed books at 0%. Bills then show them apart from 18% items without any work at the counter.

  3. 3

    Bill by barcode

Scan branded goods and search the rest by name. Sell single pens out of a box when a customer wants one.

  4. 4

    Quote the school’s list

For a school or an office, make a quotation with the full list and quantities. When they confirm, turn it into the bill.

  5. 5

    Keep institution accounts

Add the school or office as a party with its GSTIN. Unpaid bills go on its account.

  6. 6

    Collect and send statements

Collect bill by bill, and send a statement before the institution closes its accounts.

Tips for the season

Keep school lists ready

Make each school’s class list into a quotation before parents start arriving.

Code the small things

Erasers and sharpeners get lost first. A barcode or a short name keeps them counted.

Watch the 0% and 18% items

A notebook billed at 18% overcharges the customer; a pen at 0% short-pays the tax.

Collect before term ends

Institutions close accounts at the end of term. Send statements a week before.

Clear last year’s designs

Put a scheme on old designs before the new ones arrive.

Questions shopkeepers ask

What is the GST on notebooks and pens?

Since 22 September 2025, exercise books, notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and crayons carry 0% GST. Pens carry 18%. Check the HSN of your exact goods.

Can one bill have 0% and 18% items?

Yes. Each item keeps its own rate, and the bill works out the tax line by line.

How do I bill a school’s order?

Make a quotation with the school’s list. When it is confirmed, turn it into the bill, and send a delivery challan with the goods if you deliver.

Is Bilzy only for small shops?

No. It is priced so a small shop can afford it, and built for a busy one: staff logins with roles, stock in more than one godown, wholesale rates and credit limits, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B files, and billing that keeps going when the internet does not. The low price is how it is sold — one yearly plan, bought online, with no AMC — not a smaller product.

Does Bilzy work without internet?

Yes. Bills are made and saved on the phone or the PC, and go up to your account when the connection comes back.

Can I use it on my phone and my computer together?

Yes, on one account. Items, parties and bills are the same on both, and stock is moved by the server so two counters cannot sell the same last piece. Phone + Windows is ₹1,299 a year.

Can my staff bill without seeing my profit?

Yes. Each staff login gets only the screens you tick. Purchase cost and profit are their own permission.
