Cosmetics and Beauty Store Billing: Expiry Dates, Offers and the Right GST

A cream that expired on the shelf, a buy-two-get-one nobody applied, and shampoo that dropped to 5% GST — beauty retail is detail work.

The short answer

A cosmetics store needs batch and expiry on creams, makeup and fragrances, offers applied on the bill, and the right GST on each product — shampoo, hair oil, soap bars and toothpaste at 5%, most other cosmetics at 18%. Bilzy does this on Android and Windows: batch and expiry on the items that need them, schemes like buy 2 get 1 with an end date, barcode billing, and a free online store your customers can order from. It costs ₹999 a year, with a free plan to start.

Stock close to its date is money you can still save — sell it with an offer before the date, or return it to the supplier.

  • Beauty sells on trust. An expired tube on the shelf breaks it.

  • Offers bring customers in. Getting the offer right on the bill brings them back.

  • Your shelf is small. Every product on it should earn its place.

How to bill a cosmetics store on Bilzy

  1. 1

    Switch on batch and expiry

In item settings, turn on batches for the products that carry an expiry date.

  2. 2

Enter purchases with batch and expiry

Type the batch and expiry from the supplier’s bill, or read the bill from a photo and check it.

Questions shopkeepers ask

What is the GST on shampoo and cosmetics now?

Since 22 September 2025, shampoo, hair oil, toothpaste and soap bars carry 5% GST. Most other cosmetics and skincare carry 18%. Check the HSN of each product.

Can Bilzy track expiry dates for cosmetics?

Yes. Switch on batches for products with an expiry date; each purchase records the batch and expiry, and stock is kept batch by batch.

Can I sell online too?

Yes. A Bilzy account comes with a free online store where your customers can see your products and order.

Is Bilzy only for small shops?

No. It is priced so a small shop can afford it, and built for a busy one: staff logins with roles, stock in more than one godown, wholesale rates and credit limits, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B files, and billing that keeps going when the internet does not. The low price is how it is sold — one yearly plan, bought online, with no AMC — not a smaller product.

Does Bilzy work without internet?

Yes. Bills are made and saved on the phone or the PC, and go up to your account when the connection comes back.

Can I use it on my phone and my computer together?

Yes, on one account. Items, parties and bills are the same on both, and stock is moved by the server so two counters cannot sell the same last piece. Phone + Windows is ₹1,299 a year.

Can my staff bill without seeing my profit?

Yes. Each staff login gets only the screens you tick. Purchase cost and profit are their own permission.
